JLT Kickstart Workshops

The JLT Kickstart Workshops are a series of events designed to educate pre-teen and teenage girls in the areas of mind and body. Each two-hour workshop is broken into two hour-long segments; one dedicated to emotional well-being and the other demonstrating alternative forms of exercise. There are six events planned for the 2007-2008 season covering topics such as body image, conflict resolution, making healthy snack choices, and skin care and hygiene.

Details on the workshops follow:

Skincare/Hygiene & Pilates - A discussion on the importance of taking care of your skin, including fun, make-at-home masks; followed by a beginners pilates lesson.

Body Image & Belly Dancing - Discussion about positive body images including "what not to wear". Afterwords, an intense abs workout through Belly Dancing.

Conflict Resolution & Dance - All girls face conflict daily with friends and family. This workshop will discuss healthy ways to deal with everyday problems, followed by a dance lesson.

Kickboxing Sports Workshop - The program will bring in a sports figure to discuss aspects of a healthy lifestyle. The girls will then have a fun cardio kick-boxing workout.

Grocery Trip - The group will visit a local supermarket with a nutritionist and cover topics such as reading nutritional information on labels and making healthy snack choices.

Cooking Class - The group will partner with the "Mom's Workshops" to prepare a healthy Mother's Day meal using recipes from the upcoming JLT Kickstart for Health Cookbook.
